Any doubt? No, sir! The meeting has ended for a special mission on May 30, 2002. The sun has been radiating its own temperature continuously, and somehow, the smell of wildlife wafts in the atmosphere with a gentle breeze. A group of RNA soldiers, adorned with weapons in Thakurdwara, is prepared for the targeted area. Movement of some other soldiers can be seen within the army camp.
The RNA soldiers now proceed, moving in slow motion with clever movements, said leaves are lingering and falling down in the community forest. Silence has taken over in the jungle as hard people can be seen in the forest. After a few hours, the Orai River comes into view. The Orai River is not as active as in summer due to the lack of rainfall. Finally, the soldiers arrive in Nebular V.D.C.-4, at Sujanpur village, in search of suspected Maoists.
The village is in a calm motion, human-made tracks, and dust, with dogs barking heard somewhere with its own rhythm. The village is quietly beautiful, with thatched huts and a green nursery beside houses. A quarter past one, seems most of the village people are busy with their own work as rarely people can be seen on the road. Somehow, one house seems to be preparing for lunch, a one-story house, with walls made of thick straw, thatched roofs. Chickens are playing and dancing with their melodious words in the yard. A cowshed is situated on the side of the house, and a cycle is standing near the cowshed as if waiting for someone to pedal and be a means of transportation. It’s not very dark, but somewhat dark, yet visible inside the house. The kitchen is alive, preparing food. Wood fire is giving its own light in the homemade stove, and some pots are placed on it.
A woman serves food on a plate – rice and some vegetables, with a dried roasted chili on wood-fired placed on top of the rice pile. A young man about 21 years old, Bhauna Tharu, is now ready for lunch. Some other family members are present in the house and are busy with their own work. Bhauna washes his hands, pouring water from a jug, and starts mixing food with his hands. It seems very delicious, as he chews interestingly and bites a chili. After a few processes, he becomes thirsty and drinks water, all with a happy mood, as usual, spreading words with his wife. Bhauna is enjoying having lunch in the kitchen.
A group of soldiers from Ranasher Battalion in Thakurdwara army barracks, Bardia district, arrives in the locality around 1 pm after chasing a suspected Maoist. Around 1:15 pm, as Bhauna is halfway through his lunch, two soldiers enter the kitchen, and one shoots him in his right flank without any warnings. The house is in emotional turmoil; no one can raise a question or do anything else. Rather than anything else, there is only fearful noise or crying. After the shot, the soldiers get all the family out of the house, saying that they would take Bhauna to the hospital for treatment. It brings a bit of hope that Bhauna can survive. But bad luck strikes within five minutes, the same soldier shoots Bhauna’s shoulder near the neck from the front window of the house, killing him on the spot. Regardless, the soldier didn’t care and headed to the barracks after killing him.
